39 Young Ambassadors of Virtue from 14 northeastern provinces of Thailand visit Lao PDR (1-7 September 2013)

The Director of Young Ambassadors of Virtue Foundation led a delegation of 39 persons under the project Young Ambassadors of Virtue to Lao PDR from 1 – 7 September 2013. The visit took place as part of the project “Young Ambassadors of Virtue for the Strength of the Land 2013”. The delegation included 26 Young Ambassadors of Virtue, 8 teachers,1 school director, 1 YAVF Board member and 2 staff members. The Youth Ambassadors were selected in August to join the visit from their participation in the training camp on the ‘Treasures of Soil and the Thai Agricultural Way.’

The Royal Thai Embassy in Vientiane and the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Savannakhet coordinated for the delegation to visit 3 schools in Vientiane, which are Sisattanak High school, Sokpaluang Primary School, and Wattanatamchonpao – Dekkampra High School ,under HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’s Patronage, at K67 Vientiane District and 2 schools in Savannakhet which are SombunSunantha Primary School and Sombun Poansim High School. The visit allowed for the exchanges of agricultural knowledge and culture between the youngsters. The Youth Ambassadors performed choir and exchanged gifts. In addition, they also visited the Royal Initiated Agricultural Development Center, Huay Sonh Huay Sua, at Vientiane and an Agriculture Services Center at Savannakhet (Nongtao). The visit has enabled them to gain a hands-on experience in farming. They also planted trees together with youths from Sombun Poansim High School, thus fostering good friendship between the youths of the two countries.

The delegation paid a courtesy call on the Ambassador of Thailand to Lao PDR and the Thai Consul-General at Savannakhet. The delegation took this opportunity to visit important historical sites in Vientiane such as Patuxai, Pha That Luang, Haw Pha Kaeo, and Wat Si Saket. They also visited the Dinosaur Museum in Savannakhet Province. In Champasak, they visited Bajieng National Park, and Wat Phu – the second UNESCO World Heritage sites in Laos. The visit provided delegation with a good learning opportunity, broadening their vision and gave the youth ambassadors, who will become society’s important workforce, with a valuable life experience.
