For this visit, the delegation paid a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Suwapong Sirisorn, Ambassador of Thailand to Nepal, at the Royal Thai Embassy in Nepal, and Mr. Shiva Kumar Sapkota, Joint Secretary of Planning and Monitoring Division, Ministry of Education Science and Technology, with whom the group discussed the Nepali education system.
They exchanged their learning experiences with students at 5 elementary schools and secondary schools in Kathmandu and Lumbini as follows:
1. St. Mary’s Secondary School 2. St. Xavier’s School
3. Shree Siddhi Ganesh Secondary School 4. NAMI International School
5. Metta Gurukul School
The study visit provided them to learn about history, ancient architecture, and local beliefs from their visits to historical places in Kathmandu, such as Boudhanath Stupa, Patan Durbar Square (Lalitpur), Kathmandu Durbar Square, Bhaktapur Durbar Square, Hanuman Dhoka, and Budhanilkantha. In addition, they had a chance to visit Lumbini and paid respect to the birthplace of Lord Buddha at Lumbini and Maya Devi Temple, Kapilavastu, Nigrodharama Temple, Royal Thai Monastery Lumbini Nepal, and Kapilavastu Palace Temple.
The above-mentioned project enriched students’ learning experiences, especially about the multiculturalism and the beauty of the city, whose ancient architecture that is over a thousand years old is still well-preserved today. The new generations of people in Nepal have also been instilled with a sense of patriotism and are able to communicate well in English, serving as a good example for the Young Ambassadors of Virtue to emulate and pass on what they learned to their peers in their schools. The project was a memorable experience for the Young Ambassadors of Virtue that they can always look back and cherish.
