The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia and Ekachai School in Samut Sakorn 2 – 11 December 2014

The Young Ambassadors of Virtue Foundation in cooperation with the Embassy of the People’s Republic of Indonesia and Ekachai School organized an Indonesia Week from 2 – 11 December 2014. Mr. Athit Boonyasophat, Governor of Samut Sakorn Province, together with H.E. Lutfi Rauf, Ambassador of Indonesia to Thailand, co-chaired the opening ceremony on 11 December 2014.

Ekachai School is a leading primary school in Samut Sakorn Province. The school has 1,800 students and has been part of the Young Ambassadors of Virtue Foundation network since 2004. It is also an ASEAN study center in the central part of Thailand. 

The activities in the Patron Project included “week of knowledge” to broaden students’ knowledge on Indonesia and visiting programs to promote relation between the school and the Embassy.

The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia organized several activities during the week, including Bahasa language lesson, Batik fabric designing, Saman dance lesson. The school also hosted a drawing competition and an essay competition under the title “Indonesia, the way I know it” There were also exhibitions about Indonesia, Thailand-Indonesia relations, and the school’s projects under the YAVF.

These activities broadened students’ knowledge and opened their visions of the world, and prepared the Young Ambassadors of Virtue for ASEAN Community in 2015. This type of project also establish relation between Embassies in Thailand and schools in the YAVF network, helping to strengthen relation between Thailand and the Embassies. It is the YAVF’s hope that more such projects will take place in the future. The current projects can set an example for other Embassies to follow in cooperating with the YAVF.

In addition, during the visiting day, the Ambassador of Indonesia admired the ability and skills of the Thai students who were able to greet and welcome in Bahasa language and performed Indonesian dance. The students’ eagerness to answer quiz questions about Indonesia reflected their curiosity and willingness to learn more about Indonesia.
